end use

Natural gas is a major contributor to the North American energy landscape. It is the cleanest, most efficient and economical resource available in abundance. We work with the most technical minds and innovative tools so that we can create change where change is needed. Positive energy isn’t just what we make — it’s what we’re made of.

Everyday energy

Powering Industry

Natural gas is cleaner burning than all other forms of combustible fuel alternatives currently in use, such as wood, peat, coal and oil. It is 50% cleaner burning than coal when used to generate electricity. Natural gas provides 10% of Canada’s power generation, and because it can be delivered quickly and is scalable, it is an ideal partner for renewable power sources.

Heating Environments

High-efficiency natural gas is the single largest form of energy used in Canadian homes. Over six million Canadians use natural gas to light, heat and cool their houses, heat their water and cook their food (almost 80 million homes in North America).

Products + Technology

Natural gas is a vital feedstock for the petrochemical, plastics and fertilizer industries. Natural gas liquids (NGLs) such as ethane, propane, butane and condensate are typically also recovered in association with natural gas production. NGLs are used in the manufacture of a wide range of household and industrial products, including plastics, clothing, medical equipment, electronics, building materials and furniture.

Transportation

The use of natural gas for heavy-duty trucks, buses and waste disposal vehicles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20–30 %. More than 15 million vehicles worldwide run on natural gas – both compressed and liquefied. An optimal use for natural gas in the transportation sector would be to generate electricity for plug-in vehicles.
